ExxonMobil Egypt continues support for Special Olympics Egypt by sponsoring 8th Regional Games
- ExxonMobil Egypt supports Special Olympics’ 8th Regional Games held in Cairo
- On the Run suppliers avail in-kind contributions for the participants throughout the duration of the games
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi; Prime Minister Eng. Ibrahim Mahlab; Minister of Defence, Colonel General Sedki Sobhi; Minister of Youth, Eng. Khaled Abdulaziz; Dr. GhadaWaly, Minister of Social Solidarity with a set of officials and a number of celebrities and sports stars attended the inauguration of the 8th Regional Games of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Special Olympics, which took place at the Air Defense Stadium.
Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa Committee has selected Egypt to host this significant event, in which 15 MENA countries are taking part with a total 1,025 athletes, and 250 trainers, competing in 16 sports.
Ms. Nihad Shelbaya, Public and Government Affairs Manager at ExxonMobil Egypt voiced ExxonMobil Egypt's pleasure in participating in this great event. She said: "ExxonMobil Egypt is keen on providing Special Olympics Egypt with support since 2012 driven by our belief in the right of every human being to a decent life. Over our past collaboration in various sports events and youth conferences organized by the Egyptian Federal Association for Intellectual Disabilities, we witnessed how Special Olympics Egypt cast light on mental and physical abilities of people with special needs, qualifying them to take part in international games. This also offers opportunities for thousands of participants in the Special Olympics to develop and upgrade their skills to become more interactive within the society."
It is noteworthy that ExxonMobil Egypt provided the regional games with sponsorship and in-kind support, in addition to providing 800 participant athletes with in-kind support. For its part, ExxonMobil Egypt acknowledges the efforts of On the Run via the chain's suppliers who have provided 14,000 free food items for the participants throughout the whole duration of the games. The suppliers included: Ayman Effendi, Kraft, Tiba, Food Stuff, Ülkerand and Sudanco.
It is noteworthy that the Special Olympics include 16 sports: football, basketball, handball, table tennis, bowling, equitation, swimming, weightlifting and others, where hundreds of participant young people of special needs excel.
A number of activities and forums will be held alongside of the games, on top which the MENA Region Youth Conference, where normal youth volunteer in the Special Olympics to offer emotional support for their fellow athletes, in a bid to promote and encourage the engagement of people with special needs in social development.
